A study on the knowledge and practice of environmental sanitation of rural residents



Abstract
The purpose of this study was to know the degree of knowledge and practice of environmental sanitation of rural residents.
These data were obtained from 632(male 264, Female 368) residents in Paju-Gun, kyunggi-Do were conducted for assessing their water supply, parasites infection and food poison status during the period of July 23 to July 29, 1990.
As the result, following conclusions were obtained
1. Persons of 104(16.5%) out of 632 residents were satisfied with the new water supply systems.
2. About 25.3% of the plant were not chlorinated because the operators had no knowledge of chlorination.
3. As a result of investigation on what they think of parasites infections : Taenia saginata in beef (15.2%), Ascaris lumbricoides in unwashed vegetables (40.3%) and Cionorchis sinensis in uncooked fresh-water fish (43.0%)
4. Response on the treatment of Paragonimus westermani : The 58.2% of the residents were utilized the hospital and the 8.9%0 of the residents were utilized the pharmacy.
5. It was observed that 24.1% of the residents infected Hookworm¢¥ in vegetable garden.
6. Treatment of Food poisoning in summer : The 3.8% of the residents were utilized the Hospital, the 1.3% of the residents took medicine and the 25.3% of the residents untreated.
